Casco man arrested on domestic violence charges

Cumberland County Sheriff's Office criminal investigators arrested Matthew Peterson, 38, from Casco Monday on an arrest warrant for domestic violence assault (strangulation) after police said he assaulted and strangled his girlfriend early Saturday morning at their residence.4-10-CCSO-Peterson-Matthew
At approximately 1:49 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, a deputy stopped to assist a motorist in a disabled vehicle on Route 302 in Casco. The vehicle had run out of gas. The driver of the vehicle had reported that she had just been the victim of an assault and was trying to get to a friend's house, the sheriff's office reported. The victim, Peterson's long-time girlfriend and their young son, had just left their home on Lakewood Road in Casco, the sheriff's office reported.
The victim reported to the deputy that Peterson became angry and proceeded to strangle her after she returned home from an evening out with friends, the sheriff's office reported. Peterson was arrested and charged on a warrant for the Class B offense. No bail was allowed based on the charge.
The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Tactical Team was used execute the warrants as Peterson was known to be in possession of firearms and uncooperative with the police, a press release stated. Peterson was arrested without incident.

Police search for suspect in assault on card-shop owner

Police are investigating an attack on the owner of a vintage toy and sports card shop on Brighton Avenue, which the owner said occurred during an apparent attempted robbery.
At approximately 10:45 a.m. Monday, Portland Police officers responded to 578 Brighton Ave., Don's Baseball Card Center for the report of a robbery. The business owner and victim of the crime told officers that the suspect entered the business and threatened him, according to a police press release. The victim struggled with the suspect believing he was being robbed.  The victim was struck on the head several times by the suspect before the suspect fled without anything, police said. The victim sustained several non-life threatening lacerations to his head.
The suspect was seen fleeing the area in an older model, gray in color, Subaru Legacy station wagon with a roof rack, bearing partial Maine registration 774  Y. The Subaru was being operated by a white female with dirty blonde hair; tied in a ponytail. The Subaru was last seen traveling inbound on Brighton Avenue.
The suspect is described as a white male in his 30's, approximately 5 feet, 10 inches in height, weighing 150 to 180 pounds, with brown hair and wearing a light colored shirt and jeans.
Don's has been at its location for over 15 years and has been under new ownership for the past five years, according to its website. The site lists Paul Kane as the owner. The shop buys and sells a variety of items, including a "wide range of sports and non-sports cards, vintage toys, autographed and non-autographed memorabillia and vinyl records," its site states.

Dyer Brook man arrested for unlawful sexual touching of woman he was counseling

Maine State Police have charged a Dyer Brook man with unlawful sexual touching of a woman he was counseling, according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.4-10-msp-suspect-Walker
Troopers arrested 65-year-old John Walker at his home at 140 Hillcrest Lane on Friday night, the agency reported. Walker had met the 30-year-old woman at the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton where he had clergy visitation rights, police reported. The female victim was not an inmate but met the suspect while visiting her boyfriend in jail, according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Walker may be affiliated with a small church in the area, but it is not clear if he was ever ordained, police said. Walker was providing the "spiritual counseling" at his home where the unwanted advance took place, the Maine Department of Public Safety reported. The woman reported the incident to State Police at the Houlton barracks, where the case is being investigated by Detective Mark Sperrey. Walker is free on bail and will make his first appearance in Houlton Distrct Court next month.
