It's bread and circuses, as schools fail to teach

Editor,
Listening to the radio as our governor began his recent and much noted speech with the Gestapo reference, I realized right from the start he was in trouble. He began: "For 236 years our Constitution has tried to uphold our Founding Fathers' intent — to protect Americans' rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
Wrong! These famous words are in the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution, which came 11 years later in 1787. Apparently our schools do not teach history — among other things. No wonder we're in trouble.
Truth be told our schools do produce great sports teams. Bread and circuses while Rome burns. O Tempora! O Mores!
